Team fundraisers are an important part of the annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life, but another part of the fundraising total comes from generous support by area businesses and organizations. Businesses and organizations around the county provide cash and in-kind sponsorships, as well items for the silent auction.
“We’re always so appreciative for the sponsors who with either a monetary or in-kind donation cover the expenses of the Relay,” said Relay for Life chair Peg Raney. “Their donations go into the fundraising total and they allow all the money raised by teams, the Color Out Cancer 5K and other events that day to go to the American Cancer Society in its work to free the world from cancer.”
Sponsors of the 2016 Relay for Life at the platinum level with cash or in-kind donations of $1,250 are American Athletic Inc/Spalding and the Jefferson Kiwanis Club.
Gold level sponsors with donations of $1,000 are Jefferson Telecom and Raccoon Valley Radio.
Silver sponsors with $500 in cash or in-kind donations include A & W Family Restaurant, Bauer Built Manufacturing, Fareway Inc, Farmers Mutual Insurance Association, Greene County Community Center, Greene County Medical Center, GreeneCountyNewsOnline, Home State Bank, Hy-Vee, Jefferson Bee and Herald, Neese Inc, Peoples Trust & Savings Bank, UnityPoint Clinic, Wells Fargo Bank and Wild Rose Casino & Resort of Jefferson.
Businesses that gave $250 and are bronze sponsors include Aureon Contact Center (Caleris Inc), Christensen Ag Services Inc, Community State Bank of Paton, Hoyt Law Firm PC, MacDonald Insurance/Iowa Realty, Mary Greeley Medical Center, McFarland Clinic Jefferson, Medicap Pharmacy, Midland Power Cooperative, Rhythm Room Dance Center, Scranton Telephone Company, Shelter Stor-All and Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Homes Inc.
Hour of Hope sponsors at the $100 level have contributed a total of $1,500 to date, with more sponsorships still coming in. Watch for a complete list of those sponsors.
Sponsors of the Color Out Cancer 5K run/walk are American Athletic Inc/Spalding and ShineOn Designs.
Other sponsors have requested their donations not be publicized.
“The Relay for Life is fun and inspirational. It’s just one example of people from all over our county coming together for a common cause,” Raney said.
The Relay for Life of Greene County is slated for Saturday, April 23, from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm at the Greene County Community Center in Jefferson. The Color Out Cancer 5K will begin at 10:30 am at the Community Center, immediately after the survivors’ and caregivers’ lap.
